- The Progressive Genetics Herd Award (PGH) is an annual honor presented by Holstein Association USA to the 500 herds exhibiting the highest average Total Performance Index (TPI) among their females.
- Award Criteria: The PGH is determined by calculating the average TPI of both young and mature females within a herd, utilizing data from the Genetic Herd Report and Youngstock Genetic Herd Report.
- Purpose: This award highlights herds that demonstrate exceptional genetic merit.
- History: The PGH has been granted every year since 1991.
- The TPI serves as a valuable tool for dairy producers, aiding in the selection of sires to enhance herd traits such as production, health, fertility, and conformation, while also considering feed efficiency.
